Gregg Boughton, MS, ATC, CSCS 1st ANNUAL VANCE PETERSON MEMORIAL COACHES CLINIC Deadwood, SD - March 23rd-25th, 2007 The Vance Peterson Memorial Coaching Clinic is in its first year of existence. It was started for the purpose of endowing the Vance Peterson Memorial Scholarship and assisting other coaching families in need. Vance Peterson died in 2006, at age 37, from cancer. Vance Peterson was a Upton, Wyoming native, husband, father of two, and teacher/coach at Encampment High School in Encampment, Wyoming. Vance's spirit for living life, loving family, and helping young people will be his legacy. If we may, in some way, encourage you to carry it on and let it live in your lives. ATTENTION Congratulations to the Natrona County High School Fillies for winning the state gymnastics championship in Douglas last weekend. Also to Campbell County and Douglas High School for finishing 2nd and 3rd respectfully. What a great start to the winter sports final culminating events. Way to go Coaches Fauquhar, Michael and Townsend. I want to personally wish all the coaches in the upcoming state events the best of luck and thank you for all you do for the athletes of the great state of Wyoming. Hope all of you are checking the website on a regular basis for upcoming events that will be taking place in the near future. Like the First Annual Vance Peterson Coaching Clinic that will be taking place in Deadwood South Dakota, March 23-25. I looks like a great clinic and a lot of fun. Friendly reminders:

Fall Board Meeting Highlights…On Saturday, November 13, the WCA Board met at the WHSAA office in Casper for its annual Fall Meeting. The minutes are included for you to see what transpired and to give you a feel for the undertaking and direction that this Board is taking to improve the services for you. Long Time Board Member and Friend of the WCA Passes OnJohn Wooden once said, “The coaches’ most powerful tool is Love.” Jinx Tucker was the embodiment of this saying. The coaching community suffered a loss on Tuesday, October 5, 2004 with the passing away of a true gentleman. Jinx, a long time coach from Torrington, passed away at home while preparing to do what he loved….play with his kids. The time he spent with these young lives may have included teaching, coaching, counseling, or just good-natured joking. His 30 year coaching duties included the sports of volleyball, girls/boys basketball, football, and track.
